Maison Les Alexandrins Hermitage Rouge 0.75 2018
The soils contain granite particles, stones and limestone. The wines produced in the ‘Grandes Vignes’ area, where granite predominates, have a magnificent minerality and tannic structure.
This part forms 30% of the aperture ratio. Wines coming from stony soils (the ‘Greffieux’ area) are rich in aromatics and complex. They form the structure with 60% participation in the aperture. The wines from the limestone soils of the Muret area add elegance and finesse to the blends. Thus, each of the three elements contributes to different characteristics in the finished wine. Varieties : Syrah Tasting Characteristics : The 2018 vintage is described as “an iron fist in a velvet glove”. The wine is characterized by a full body, power, well shaped and balanced tannins. The granitic soils contribute to the structure and the alluvial soils to the intensity of the flavours.
Aging in oak barrels for 18 months has softened the tannins and gives a soft and silky finish. A wine that will continue to evolve in the next 10 years.
In its youth it is suitable to be combined with red meats due to its aromatic character, and with ageing it will be a good match with game.
