Red Tuscany *1x Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2019
Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva is a blend of Sangiovese along with other complementary varietals produced as a tribute to Antinori’s historic label that has accompanied the family’s winemaking traditions over the years.
The opening of the new Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery inspired the family to reinterpret this Tuscan classic into a premium wine with a unique style, the resulting Riserva is delicate, resolute and elegant.
The grapes are separated from the stems and carefully crushed, then transferred to stainless steel vessels where alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature not exceeding 30 °C (86 °F). Maceration on the skins continues for a period of approximately 12-15 days using controlled automated techniques to gently extract flavours, structure and supple tannins.
The Sangiovese undergoes malolactic fermentation in inox tanks, while several lots of the other grape varieties go through second- and third-fill barriques. The different lots are blended and continue to age in oak, mostly in larger format barrels and a smaller percentage in barriques, until the spring of 2021. Bottling begins in August 2021.
Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2019 is ruby red in color. On the nose, aromas of small red fruits and floral notes of lavender lead to spicy notes of clove and sweet tobacco.
The rich bouquet is complemented by impressions of graphite, white chocolate and mint. Palate-filling notes combine with soft tannins and are supported by excellent freshness. The finish reflects aromatic notes that are also felt on the nose.
Chianti Classico pairs well with: grilled meats, pasta with meat, lamb stew, pizza, pasta dishes with tomatoes and meat, anything that uses salsa verde, Tuscan olive oil, bean/chickpea soups.
1 x Villa Antinori Rosso Tuscany 2019
Villa Antinori is above all an idea, a plan that envisages the process of winemaking: research and development on the one hand and historical heritage on the other. Villa Antinori is an important milestone as its name is associated with over 100 years of history.
At the same time, the estate is an example of continuous progress. The basic principle is continuous research for ever higher quality standards. This idea creates two different wines that share a common passion for quality: the Villa Antinori Rosso and the Villa Antinori Bianco.
Villa Antinori was originally produced in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori as a Chianti Classico, which can age and which will improve with time. Soon after, Villa Antinori was discovered in the most prestigious cellars of embassies, royal houses, important hotels and restaurants.
In 1931 Villa Antinori Bianco was produced from traditional Trebbiano grapes. In the 1980s, a small percentage of Chardonnay was added to give the wine better structure.
Villa Antinori was first produced in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori, the father of Piero Antinori, as the Antinori family’s signature wine; an exceptional wine that can represent the history, identity and continuity of the family like no other.
“Villa Antinori is a full-blooded Tuscan red […] whose grapes are grown, ripened and harvested from our Tuscan estates and then fermented and aged on the Antinori family estate.” Piero Antinori.
Back in 1928, Nicolo Antinori decided to name this wine Villa Antinori, in honour of the family’s eponymous villa; it was a reflection of his personal interpretation of the unique identity of Chianti Classico and Tuscany.
The label design represents Antinori’s concept of home, home territory and Tuscany. “The French have castles, but we have villas!” Niccolò Antinori cheerfully explains his choice for the front label illustration, an innovative design that breaks with the more traditional packaging conventions of the time.
Villa del Cigliano
The Villa del Cigliano, set in the gently rolling hills of the San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the province of Florence, has always been a symbol of strong family ties; the villa has overseen the lives of generations of Antinori family members since 1546, the year Alessandro di Niccolò Antinori became owner of the property.
Villa Antinori 2019 is in ruby red color. Its intense and complex nose offers fruity notes of black cherries, plums, hints of cherry, mint and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, well-rounded with soft delicate tannins that support a long spicy finish.
The juicy plum and blackberry flavors of this Rosso pair well with grilled meats like beef and pork, pasta dishes with (or without) ragu, and even roast chicken with rosemary.
1 x Antinori Il Brusciato Bolgheri 2020
Il Bruciato was first produced in 2002 in one of the most difficult vintages for the Guado al Tasso estate. The wine is a modern interpretation of Bolgheri’s unique terroir made from carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah grapes from the vineyards of Guado al Tasso.
The geological composition of the soil is varied, giving the wine structure and complexity.
Upon arrival at the winery, the selected bunches are removed and carefully crushed. Fermentation and maceration on the skins is carried out in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for approximately 10 to 15 days at a temperature of 28-30°C (82-86°F).
Some of the Merlot and Syrah must is kept at lower temperatures during fermentation to preserve the distinctive flavours of each grape variety. Part of the malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques and part in stainless steel tanks and is completed by the end of the year for all grape varieties.
The Cabernet Sauvignon was subsequently blended with Merlot, Syrah and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: the blend was reintroduced into barriques where it was left to age before bottling.
Il Bruciato 2020 has a deep ruby red colour. The nose is intense and enticing with hints of blackcurrant, blackberry, delicate vanilla and sweet spice. Excellent harmony of flavour where the fruity finish dominates and gives length and smoothness.
The perfect food combinations for Il Bruciato are grilled steaks, porchetta, meat and pasta dishes.
