Villa Antinori Rosso Tuscany 2019

Villa Antinori is above all an idea, a plan that envisages the process of winemaking: research and development on the one hand and historical heritage on the other. Villa Antinori is an important milestone as its name is associated with over 100 years of history. At the same time, the estate is an example of continuous progress. The basic principle is continuous research for ever higher quality standards. This idea creates two different wines that share a common passion for quality: the Villa Antinori Rosso and the Villa Antinori Bianco. Villa Antinori was originally produced in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori as a Chianti Classico, which can age and which will improve with time. Soon after, Villa Antinori was discovered in the most prestigious cellars of embassies, royal houses, important hotels and restaurants. In 1931 Villa Antinori Bianco was produced from traditional Trebbiano grapes. In the 1980s, a small percentage of Chardonnay was added to give the wine better structure.
Villa Antinori was first produced in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori, the father of Piero Antinori, as the Antinori family’s signature wine; an exceptional wine that can represent the history, identity and continuity of the family like no other. “Villa Antinori is a full-blooded Tuscan red […] whose grapes are grown, ripened and harvested from our Tuscan estates and then fermented and aged on the Antinori family estate.” Piero Antinori.
The Story
Back in 1928, Nicolo Antinori decided to name this wine Villa Antinori, in honour of the family’s eponymous villa; it was a reflection of his personal interpretation of the unique identity of Chianti Classico and Tuscany.
The design
The label design represents Antinori’s concept of home, home territory and Tuscany. “The French have castles, but we have villas!” Niccolò Antinori cheerfully explains his choice for the front label illustration, an innovative design that breaks with the more traditional packaging conventions of the time.
Villa del Cigliano
The Villa del Cigliano, set in the gently rolling hills of the San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the province of Florence, has always been a symbol of strong family ties; the villa has overseen the lives of generations of Antinori family members since 1546, the year Alessandro di Niccolò Antinori became owner of the property.
Villa Antinori 2019 is in ruby red color. Its intense and complex nose offers fruity notes of black cherries, plums, hints of cherry, mint and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, well-rounded with soft delicate tannins that support a long spicy finish.
The juicy plum and blackberry flavors of this Rosso pair well with grilled meats like beef and pork, pasta dishes with (or without) ragu, and even roast chicken with rosemary.
