Sofia Wine Walk
“Well, I had to find a new mission related to my new passion. I felt I needed a fresh start, a new direction, a new inspiration. Something that I wanted to feel like my journey. I knew it would also take time for me to realize what exactly is that next achievement that would make me happy.
At such times of uncertainty, the best healing method is a trip. I travelled to wine regions in Spain and France, tasted many wines, had some of the most beautiful moments in my life. But it was this trip to Lisbon that changed my entire life.
Like all other times, I had prepared in advance every single detail, and had filled the schedule with wine experiences.
The list included a stopover for a glass of vino in the best wine bars in town. The most special moment was a wine walking tour that I booked through AIRBNB.
I was the only participant at the lunch hour, together with the guide. He was happy to have a guest that is genuinely interested in wine. Just 22 years old, he was already very well prepared in the subject of Portuguese wines, and could talk about everything from soil to climate in different regions.
He took an individual approach and selected wines different from the mainstream ones, so I really felt pampered. I don’t know if an apple hit Newton to make his ingenious discovery of gravity, but what is for certain is that the tour had enlightened me.
Didn’t I have the same qualities as the young guide, didn’t I also know much about wine? Did I not love meeting and communicating with people? I went back to Dublin, and I could not wait to open the browser and check if there was a wine tour site in Sofia.
Sofia Wine Walk
After not finding one, I started this long-awaited project of mine – Sofia Wine Walk. An online-based platform for wine walking tours of Sofia.
And so the great reading and research on the topic of online business, Bulgarian wines and touring began. The results of the study showed that there is no way a site can go without a wine blog—another turning point in my life.
I started to write about Bulgarian wine, or more specifically – about the small, boutique, family-owned wineries as per the concept of Sofia Wine Walk.
A year later, in May 2019, I took my first group on a wine walking tour. Yay! It was an unforgettable experience.”
