Chateau La Grave, Pomerol 0.75 2012
Region: Bordeaux
A lovely estate in the west of Pomerol, whose foundation dates back to the 19th century. Its name comes from the specific rocky terrain. The vineyard marks the start of the mile-long gravel strip that crosses the Pomerol plateau to continue to Cheval Blanc and end at Château Figeac. La Grave is considered the equivalent in quality to a third level Medoc and among the top Pomerol representatives. Christian Moueix bought it in 1971 and it was his first acquisition. Next came a huge focus on restoring the estate and improving the vineyards. Today, as part of the Jean-Pierre Moueix property, it receives tremendous care and is considered one of the family’s top properties.
Varieties: Merlot § Cabernet Franc
The wine is smooth, with ripe tannins and fruit character and a well-defined vintage expression. Despite the ripeness and abundance of fruit, the tannins are structured and support the long finish. There are also refreshing acids that balance the fruit and give the wine a finish.
