Antinori Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo 2019
In the 1990s, the Antinori family invested in Puglia, the heel of Italy, a region traditionally recognized more for the quantity, than the quality, of its wine grapes. A number of economic and terroir factors help make the decision. Land prices (especially compared to Tuscany) are not expensive.
The soil conditions and climate are favourable for expanding the production of local grapes as well as some international varieties. Torcicoda is a wine produced by Tormaresca from 100% Primitivo grapes sourced from vines grown as saplings and spurs in a cordon at Tenuta Maìme di S. Pietro Vernotico.
The grapes were picked just dried in the first week of September. After pressing, maceration, managed with soft pumping and removal, continues for 15 days in stainless steel tanks. During this phase, the wines complete alcoholic fermentation at a temperature of no more than 26 °C.
After vinification, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation directly in French and Hungarian oak barrels, in which it is aged for about 10 months. An additional period of 8 months of bottle ageing follows before it is released to the market.
Antinori Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo 2019 is characterized by an intense ruby red colour. There are fruity aromas of plum, blackberry and raspberry, combined with spicy flavours of pepper, coffee and cocoa. On the palate it gives a soft, intense, pleasant and elegant taste, with good intensity and persistence.
Antinori Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo 2019 pairs well with grilled vegetable pasta, pizza rustica, spaghetti bolognese, pasta putanesca, eggplant parmesan, hamburgers and lamb curry.
