Antinori Tignanello 0.75 2020
Region: Tuscany IGT
Varieties: Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc
Tignanello is produced exclusively from the vineyard of the same name, a parcel of about 140 acres at 1,150-1,325 feet elevation on the Tignanello estate.
This is perhaps the first Sangiovese to begin aging in small oak barrels, the first modern red wine to use international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon in its blend, and among the first Chianti Classico red wines to be produced without white varieties.
Antinori Tignanello 0.75 2020, originally called “Chianti Classico Riserva vigneto Tignanello”, was first produced from a single vineyard parcel in 1970, with a blend containing 20% Cignaiolo and 5% Trebbiano and Malvasia and aged in small oak barrels.
In 1971 the white varieties were eliminated and Tignanello became a red Tuscan table wine instead of Chianti Classico. Since 1982 the blend is the current one. Tignanello is only produced in favorable vintages and was not produced in 1972, 1973,1974, 1976, 1984, 1992 and 2002.
Tasting characteristics:
Antinori Tignanello 0.75 2020 is highly intense, ruby red in colour with purple hues, the wine is immediate and flatteringly persuasive in its aromas and harmonious in expressing the characteristics of Chianti Classico as a region.
The nose has aromas of liquorish, violets and cherries, along with hints of vanilla, chocolate and sweet warmed oak, all with excellent intensity and sweet elegance.
Fresh and pleasant flavours in the lingering finish and aftertaste add length and convincing finesse.
