Antinori Vermentino Guado Al Tasso 2021
The Guado al Tasso estate is located in the small but prestigious Bolgheri DOC, on the banks of the upper Marema, about a hundred kilometres southwest of Florence. This appellation has a relatively recent history, DOC Bolgheri was approved in 1995 and has since become an internationally recognised reference point for the Italian and international wine making arena. The estate covers an area of 320 hectares (790 acres), planted with vineyards, set in a beautiful plain surrounded by rolling hills, known as the “Amphitheatre of Bolgeri” for its peculiar shape. The vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino. The nearby sea provides a mild climate with a constant breeze to temper the summer heat and ease the harsh winter weather.
The first vintage of Vermentino was in 1996. The inspiration behind this wine was the desire to reintroduce one of the indigenous varieties from this part of the Tyrrhenian coast, recognised and appreciated since 1990 for its aromatic qualities.
The microclimate of Bolgheri is particularly favourable for the production of Vermentino due to both the orientation of the territory and the proximity to the sea, which gives the wine pronounced mineral notes, freshness and aromatic qualities.
Each vineyard parcel is harvested separately depending on the degree of ripeness of the grapes in order to preserve and improve the complex territorial characteristics of each individual vineyard block. On arrival at the cellars the grapes were removed, delicately crushed and lightly pressed. The resulting must is transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place at a temperature of 16 °C (61 °F). Each individual lot was carefully and systematically evaluated and then mixed. Vermentino Tenuta Guado al Tasso was bottled in January 2022.
Vermentino from the Guado al Tasso estate is straw yellow in colour with greenish highlights. The nose offers an enticing aromatic intensity with notes of citrus, white flowers and tropical fruits. It tastes spicy with good persistence of flavour and a fresh and pleasant citrus finish.
