Familia Torres Altos Ibericos Crianza 2017
Region: Rioja
Variety: Tempranillo
In a tweet we could describe the Altos Ibéricos Crianza as “a contemporary red wine with soft tannins and lots of fruit. Flexible to the nth degree, it exemplifies a new kind of modern Rioja.”
Altos Ibéricos is Familia Torres’ first venture in the Rioja area. This light, elegant and modern interpretation represents the essence of Tempranillo in all its beauty. The wine is made from 100% Tempranillo, mainly from Rioja Alavesa. Crianza offers a bright and contemporary red with soft and juicy tannin, lifted aromas and rich fruit flavours.
Light aging in French and American oak for 12 months and then 12 months in bottle creates a well-rounded palate and spicy nuances of clove, green pepper and toasted bread.
Altos Ibericos Crianza pairs well with almost any kind of mild or medium spicy chilli dish such as chilli con carne. (Rioja suits Southwestern American food and American barbecue); saffron dishes like paella or Moroccan tajines; cheese, especially hard sheep’s cheeses like Manchego; many pork dishes, especially prepared Spanish-style with beans. Chorizo and morcilla (black pudding) are good combinations, as are jamon (ham) and albondigas (meatballs); dishes with red peppers and/or paprika or red pepper.
