Familia Torres Celeste Crianza 2016
Ribera del Duero is located in the Central Meseta or central plateau of the Iberian Peninsula, where the provinces of Soria, Burgos, Segovia and Valladolid come together. It is home to a 115km by 35km strip of vineyards that stretches along the Duero River basin. This is one of the highest vineyards in the northern hemisphere, a complex land with high altitude, whose harsh climate produces extremely high-quality grapes.
Only the best wines reveal their secrets to truly reflect their origins. Celeste Crianza is a sumptuous, fruit-filled, full-bodied wine with intense colour that has the freshness, passion and intensity of a star-filled night.
This wine is aged 12 months in French and American oak barrels and 12 months in bottle. The flagship wine from the Pago del Cielo winery is one of the most internationally renowned wines of the DO Ribera del Duero.
The vineyard is located in the highest area of DO, where the vineyards and the starry sky seem to share a magical connection. Nestled in the east-central part of the Duero River basin, near Fompedraza and the Duraton River, a branch of the mighty Duero, this hilly landscape is characterized by wetlands intersected by narrow valleys that make up the unique morphology of the region.
The wine has a fascinating deep cherry red colour. On the nose it is characterized by intense, concentrated aromas of black fruits (blueberry jam) revealing hints of ripe figs and a fine smoky, mineral (graphite) vein. On the palate it reveals a velvety and aromatic palate with noble, finely grained tannins. Oak aging gives the wine delicate notes of spice (bitter cocoa) and toast (roasted coffee).
Given its soft, silky tannins and fruit concentration, the wine pairs beautifully with all types of red meat, chorizo and aged cheeses.
